WOMEN AT WORK
Laundry, Kerala, South India
In many parts of South India the person who did the laundry (a
dhobi) was a man, but throughout Kerala women take the laundry
down to the river and washing stones, where they visit while they
work. On a typical summer day before the monsoon, a sari spread
out on the rocks or on a line will be thoroughly dry before the
woman has finished washing the next sari. |
