WOMEN AT WORK
At the Neighborhood Well, Trivandrum, Kerala
For centuries, neighborhood women have lined up their water pots
and waited their turn at the well, either by gossiping with friends
or completing other errands while the other women kept the line
moving forward. Light plastic pots have replaced the heavy brass
or clay pots used for centuries, but the shape remains the same,
an ancient design that is easy to carry on the hip, raise to the
head, pour from, and maneuver without fear of spilling.
